Eva Ruiz se la pasó cantando casi toda su vida. Pero fue a los 16 años cuando se mudó a Madrid, viviendo sola durante 6 años, que realmente experimentó la industria de la música. Definitivamente fue difícil al principio, tuvo que aprender a ser fuerte y cuidarse desde muy pequeña, pero también la ayudó a crecer y convertirse en la mujer que es hoy.
¿Para quién escribes? ¿En qué te inspiras para escribir?
Me inspiro en el amor, experiencias que viví, también con mi casa,en las Islas Canarias, realmente le pone toda el alma a mi música.
Como artista multifacética, ¿te resulta más fácil expresarte a través de tu música u otra producción?
Siempre me ha gustado el arte en todas sus formas, pero creo que escribir canciones, poesía, cuentos y cantarlos, siempre ha sido mi forma favorita de expresarme.
This can be as broad or as specific as you perceive, who do youwrite for? what do you take inspiration from to write?
I get inspired with love, experiences that I went through, also withmy home, the Canary Islands, really puts all the soul to my music.
As a multifaceted artist do you find it easier to express yourselfthrough your music or another output?
I’ve always loved art in all forms, but I think that writing songs,poetry, stories and singing them, it’s always been my favorite wayto express myself.
¿Alguna vez te pone nerviosa expresar tus sentimientos para que tus fans y el resto del mundo los vean?
100%. Hay canciones que son muy vulnerables y a veces da miedo mostrarle al mundo tus sentimientos y experiencias, también es terapéutico, la forma en que puedes expresar esa parte de ti,dejarla ir y compartir historias similares con personas que también se están inspirando. Por lo que dices, es hermoso.
¿El paso del tiempo afectó eso de alguna manera para bien o para mal?
Siento que el tiempo te hace más sabio y te ayuda a lidiar mejor con tus sentimientos. En mi caso creo que el tiempo realmente me ayudó a comprender mis sentimientos y comunicarlos. Ahora soy más abierta delo que era.
¿Por qué crees que la música es tan poderosa?
Creo que es así de poderosa porque cada uno tiene su propia relación con la música, sin importar lo que hayas pasado en la vida, siempre hubo una canción. La música es como un amigo que no puedes ver pero que siempre está ahí para ti. Como Dios.
Does it ever make you nervous to put your feelings out there foryour fans and the rest of the world to see?
100%. There are songs that are very vulnerable and it’s s scarysometimes to show the world ur feelings and experiences, it’s alsotherapeutical, the way you can share that part of you, let it go andkinda share similar stories with ppl that are also getting inspiredby what you saying, is beautiful.
Has time affected that in any way for the better or for the worse?
I feel that time makes u wiser and helps you deal with your feelingsbetter. In my case I think that time really helped me understand myfeelings and communicate them. I’m more open now than I was.
Why do you think music is so powerful?
I think that it’s that powerful because everyone has their ownrelationship with music, no matter what you went through in life,there was always a song. Music is like a friend that you can’t seebut is always there for you. Just like God.
¿Sientes la misma pasión cuando actúas que cuando escribes o grabas?
Ambos son muy especiales e intensos, siento la misma pasión, pero es diferente, escribir es más privado y vulnerable y actuar es más empoderador.
Sabemos que tu cultura es muy importante para ti, ¿puedes compartir un poco más sobre eso y cómo lo conectas con tu arte?
Hay una frase en español que dice “cuando no sepas a donde vas recuerda de dónde vienes”. Creo que es muy cierto porque a veces puedes sentirte perdido, pero para mí, pensar en el hogar es unaguía sólida. Crecer en una pequeña isla con una vida tan simple,tantas culturas y todo tan real, inspira mucho la forma en que creo,quiero que la gente se conecte conmigo y me conozca a través de miarte, por eso me encanta hacer música, parece real.
Do you feel the same passion when you are performing than when youare writing or recording?
They are both very special and intense, I feel the same passion, it’sjust different, writing is more private and vulnerable and performingis more empowering.
I know your culture is very important to you, can you share a bitmore about that and how you connect that to your art?
There’s this phrase in Spanish that says “cuando no sepas a dondevas recuerda de dónde vienes” I think is so true because you canfeel lost sometimes, but for me, thinking about home is a strongguide. Growing up on a small island with such a simple life, so manycultures and everything being so real, inspires a lot the way Icreate, I want ppl to connect with me and know me through my art,that’s why I love making music that feels real to me.
